Comments: Summer showdown a good omen

Funny you should say that Colonel as I have in fact recently changed jobs to something that gives me a bit more time to spend with my family. Hopefully I'll be able to translate that into the occasional appearance on the Sunday morning courts this season.

Mrs. Colonel is rare and precious but by no means does she believe Sunday Morning Road Hockey is more important than tending to my children or abode.

Wendel, you used to be all about mitigation, moderation and negotiation. I think you could use these skills to sway Mrs. Wendel's perspective. Perhaps if you reduced your work load Monday-Friday in favour of spending some quality time at home during those days Mrs. Wendel would look more fondly on you spending some time Sunday morning with the boys ... or then again, perhaps not.

Colonel, you're just lucky you have one of those rare and precious wives who actually understands that Sunday morning road hockey glory is more important than tending to your children or keeping the family home in good repair. I on the other hand have one who thinks I've had some "personal time" if I've spent the morning painting the fence.

Boy, you guys are a couple of crabbies. Must be because you missed the summer game ... and most of the last couple of years. I hope you're going to put up this year as opposed to hiding behind familial responsibilities excuses.

Colonel, not sure whether you're off your meds or revealing something about your marriage ...

Well done boys, that's one helluva turnout for the midsummer game. Sorry I missed it, Wendel Junior's arrival has put a big dent in my freedom just when Wendelette is starting to get old enough to ease the parental burden a bit.

PFG - where were you Wednesday night? I thought we were promised the pleasure of your presence?

I feel it important to relay that your broken promises are like shards of glass piercing thru my soft smooth skin. Despite the healing, the scars remain.

Alternatively ...

Broken promises are like taking the wings of a pretty bird for it stops that lovely thing from flying and only leaves that body dying.

Or, if you'd rather ...

You promised me perfect French toast, flawless omelettes, and hard-boiled eggs with no center yolk. These promises were broken; and broken promises are like women after a ten-month winter: hairy, horny, and nothing to be trifled with.
