January 01, 2004Shrimp Ring on ice?Sunday's Shrimp Ring Bowl could be on ice. Literally. A freak New Year's Eve storm left almost a foot of heavy, wet snow on the road hockey courts, and with temperatures expected to fluctuate from above freezing in the day to well below overnight, the concrete playing surface could be a frozen wasteland by Sunday. Last week's game was delayed by almost an hour as the roadsters had to clear a thin layer of snow that had fallen the day before. If the Shrimp Ring Bowl is postponed, it would be the first time a game has been scuttled by weather in almost two seasons, when a late-January snowstorm kept all but four players--Lak Attack, Billy Idol, Elvis and the Living Legend--from making it to the courts. A Sunday Morning tradition for the past 11 seasons, the Shrimp Ring Bowl has become the hilight of the roadsters' social calendar, as they pause from their on-court rivalries to welcome the new year with semi-frozen crustaceans and tangy sauce. i believe they are called "gonch", and for once we all wish you would try them, legend. "We're gonna need something to keep the balls soft." Anybody got some sort of portable heating device? We're gonna need something to keep the balls soft. Posted by: Living Legend at January 3, 2004 08:50 PMWhat?!? My Doctor says that is the preferred rehab method. Someone should tell Beetle Boy that sitting on the couch stuffing his face with chips does not count as rehab :) Posted by: TheColonel at January 3, 2004 02:54 AMThanks for painting that picture for us, Una. When I spear the Legend on Sunday, I'm blaming you for getting me angry. Posted by: Wink at January 2, 2004 12:49 PMHey Colonel, unless you plan on sipping Margaritas on the sandy white beaches of Cancun for the next 2 weeks...I suggest you find someone else to carpool w/ for the next snowy while. The only white stuff I plan on shoveling aside are all the bikini clad babes as I make my way back to the bar for a refill. Posted by: Unabomber at January 2, 2004 01:50 AMHey Colonel, I may not be there this week as I continue to rehab my ankle which was injured during last week's game...if the ankle is ready to go, I'll be there... Posted by: Beetle Boy at January 1, 2004 11:57 PMThe forecast is for another dumping of the cold white stuff on Saturday. So what time should roadsters show up Sunday morning to start shoveling? Beetle Boy and I would like to know so that we can plan to arrive just as all the work is completed and the fun is about to start. We will be car pooling with Unibomber and Giebelhaus so the timing of our arrival should be just about perfect! Posted by: TheColonel at January 1, 2004 06:29 PMOur court has been shoveled! Suburb should try to get out a little more before posting such inaccuracies. There was some kind of rogue game just wrapping up when I checked it out this afternoon, so they must have done the work. Posted by: Living Legend at January 1, 2004 04:52 PMSo will there ba an update as to if the game is on or not Sat? Posted by: Elvis at January 1, 2004 02:58 PM |
